Biography

George Frederick Brunner was a Revolutionary War veteran.

Notes: Alice Jane Bruner Wohrer's "Scribble Book" explains that the Bruner name (for a river in Switzerland) was originally spelled Brunner. Alice Wohrer Yarnal used her grandmother's family research, and spells Frederick's name with two n's.

See https://homepages.rootsweb.com/~farmerie/shoop/Schubb.htm © 1997,1998,1999 part 1, second paragraph. This narrative of the Shoop/Shupe family of Montgomery county PA outlines a family history to include a likely sister of George Frederick Brunner named Maria (or Anna Maria) and names their parents as Hans Conrad Brunner and either Anna Barbara or Eva Barbara Speker.

The Brunner lineage not being the primary focus of the Shupe article, the information about them is not sourced, but is clearly based on Old Goshenhoppen Church records. These records are transcribed in WIlliam John HInke's 1920 book A History of the Goshenhoppen Reformed Charge, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (1727-1819). Although he writes that the Old Goshenhoppen church was established by 1730, the book contains records for it beginning only in 1764, so George Frederick's baptism is not available in the book, available online at https://archive.org/details/historyofgoshen00hink Hinke quotes extensively from the church's records (noting when a new stove was purchased in 1754, for example), but he states, "At Old Goshenhoppen the oldest record book, now in possession of the congregation, was also begun by Mr. Riess. Here again earlier baptisms were entered by him. The first baptism which he himself may have performed is dated June 5, 1764, although the baptism which is actually placed first took place on January 22, 1765."

George Frederick Brunner's baptism is not listed in the New Goshenhoppen records transcribed in this book, which do go back farther. It is also not in the Great Swamp records transcribed by HInke.

A cousin of mine, William Claude Thompson Jr. (1942-2012), wrote to the Montgomery County Historical Society and obtained the following from their scan of records on George Frederick Brunner, listed chronologically here:

-- 11 Sep 1785 Worcester, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Friedrich and Maria sponsored the baptism of Elizabeth Schub, daughter of Jacob and Maria. Letter dated 19 Nov 1952, copy to W. Claude Thompson from Montgomery County Historical Society dated 15 July 1896.

-- 1785-1789 Residence Worcester, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania Listed in Old Records Room, Montgomery Cty Court House, Norristown. Listed 1785 to 1789 then transferred to Perkiomen and Skippack Twp. Letter dated 19 Nov 1952, copy to W. Claude Thompson from Montgomery County Historical Society dated 15 July 1986.

-- 1791-1794 Perkiomen, Montgomery, Pennsylvania listed in tax records. There was no Brunner in 1796. Same source as 1785 residence.

-- 1796-1825 Worcester, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania Fredk or George Fredk or Fredk listed 1796-1825. see 1785 Residence for source,

-- 25 Jul 1811 Worcester, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, USA Frederick was listed as sponsor for baptism of the son of Jacob Ginginer and wife. Date is birth date of child.

Notes: Are the pre-1764 Old Goshenhoppen records available? Can the information for George Frederick Brunner's baptism as cited in the Schubb/Shoop family history be verified by church records (or another source)? [Cheryl J. Kotecki 20 Jul 2022]

Find a Grave formerly listed 10 Jun 1757 for George Frederick Brunner's birth date.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Frederick by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Frederick:
