Lewis Bryant, well known resident of Clinton County, was born in Seneca County, N.Y., September 17, 1825. His parents were John and Anne (Hodge) Bryant, natives of New York and Connecticut respectively.

In the Spring of 1852 he came to Clinton county and located on section 2, Essex Township. His home was in the woods and three hundred Indians were camped in the vicinity. They were friendly and gave no trouble.

December 25, 1846, Mr. Bryant and Miss Louisa Hollenbeck were united in marriage. She was born in N. Y., August 20, 1825, to Cornelius and Fannie Hollenbeck. To Mr. and Mrs. Bryant five children were born, only one living, John F., a daughter Emma L. died July 1889. She was the wife of of W. J. Morrison. 1
