William Bryan was born in 1775 in Orangeburg County, Province of South Carolina.

William (age 23) married Sabra Dykes (age 19); daughter of William George Giddings Dykes Sr. and Susannah Everette) in 1799 in South Carolina, United States. Their children were:

  1. Henry Bryant (1800-1850)
  2. Milton James Bryan (1813-1866)
  3. Elias David Bryant (1816-1850)
  4. Sabra Dykes Bryant (1818-1863)

William died on November 9, 1853, in Sumter County, Georgia, United States, aged 77.

Research Notes

Macon County History, page 135: "Traveler's Rest" the Baptist Church - the Poplar Springs (afterwards Travelers Rest) Baptist Church was constituted on the first day of Sep 1832, with nine members: WILLIAM and ELIAS BRYAN, Daniel Saunders, SABRA BRYAN ,MargaretRouse, Elizabeth young, Esther Easterlin, Nancy Lewis and Harriet Saunders.

At the December conference of the same year (1832) REV. HENRY DYKES was chosen pastor, and continued so for four years. About 1842, the Poplar Springs Baptist Church withdrew from the Houston Association and joined the Rehoboth, and changed the name from Poplar Springs to Traveler's Rest Baptist CHurch.

On page 137: Beaulah Church - at Beulah, Macon County, Georgia, was constitued onthe second Sat in December, 1828, by a presbytery composed of HENRY DYKES and Isass Norris and belonging to the Echecouncee Association. Constituting members were: John McKenzie, Elijah Burnam, WILLIAM BRYANT, Jesse Pittman, Mittie McKenzie, Chloe Burnam, SUBRY (SABRA) BRYANT, Nancy Pittman and Margaret Rouse.

This church, a small log house, was built on Horsehead Ceek at Snell Crossing, and given he name of Beulah. WILLIAM BRYANT and Jesse Pittman were elected the first deacons.
