.Absalom was born September 6 1801. He married Agnes Johnson.
Absalom lived in Knox County KY in 1810. He probably continued to live in the same place for most of his life. However, in 1818 Whitley County was formed and the part where Absalom lived was split off from Knox and became Whitley. He probably lived his entire life along the Jellico River in Knox/Whitley County with the exception of a few years between 1831-1836 where he may have left the state for a few years and then returned.
In 1821 he purchased land on the Jellico River jointly with Peter Bryant – 50 acres, 8 February 1821 and 250 acres 22 August 1821. He was taxed for land there off and on for most of his life. However, it seems that he may have bought and sold land there, as he was not taxed for land every year and the amount of land he had varied from year to year.
In 1821 he married Agnes Johnson. Together they had at least 11 children. While Absalom was alive, most of his children lived close to him in Whitley County KY. However, according to the death certificate of Andrew Bryant, his father Howel was born in Iowa. This Howel is a son of Absalom and was born sometime around 1830. Absalom was not in the Whitley Tax List between 1832 and 1835 so he may have lived in Iowa during this time. However the evidence of Howel’s birth in Iowa is not consistent with other records that say Howel was born in Kentucky so this is not conclusive - just a lead to be followed up on at this time.
On 30 July 1863 Absalom died and was buried in the Lovitt Cemetery, near Williamsburg/Pleasant Hill, Whitley Co., KY.[1]
