Biography

Ronald was born in 1922, at 48 Thompson Street, Gladesville. He started school at Gladesville Public School, Victoria Road, Gladesville, in 1928, stayed there for 1 year, then in 1929 moved to the newly opened Boronia Park School, in Pittwater Road, Boronia Park, which he attended for 4 years, completing Primary Education. In 1935, he moved to Rozelle High School for at least 1 year before moving to Fort Street High School, Petersham, where he completed year 8. After getting into some fights at school it was suggested he would be "better off getting a job", so he left school in that year.

In C. 1936, Began working for his father, (who was a Builder) assisting in building houses in Thompson Street, Gladesville.

Lived with parents at 48 Thompson Street, Gladesville, until 1940, when mother Elsie died.

In 1940, Ronald was conscripted in the Army and after training was sent to Esk and Ravenshoe in Queensland to defend against possible Japanese attack. When war ended Ron returned to Sydney to become a truck driver like his brothers. He married Shirley June Goddard, in 1947, at Meadowbank Catholic Church. Shirley was daughter of William Charles Goddard and Dorathea Ann Balkin of Dubbo.

After they got married, Ron, and Shirley went to live with Ron's father Walter, at 48 Thompson Street, Gladesville, and their first two children were born while living there. Rhonda born 1947 and Colin born 1949.

In 1951, Ron purchased a house at 153 Ryde Road, Gladesville, from his father, which was practically a gift, as he payed a very low price. The family moved into their new house, and in 1954, Shirley gave birth to twins, Marion and William, at Ryde Hospital. The Family lived at 153 Ryde Road, Gladesville, from 1951 until 1971.

In 1971, Ron purchased 5 acres at Denham Road, Kenthurst, NSW, and built a large house there. Moved the family from Gladesville to Kenthurst in late 1971. Wife Shirley had stroke in 1980, Ronald stopped work and became her carer. In 1981, sold house at Kenthurst and moved to new house at Cornish Avenue, Kilarneyvale, Central Coast, NSW.

Ronald took care of wife until C. year 2000, When he got Alzheimers, and their house was sold, and they moved into a Retirement Village at Gosford. Ronald died in June 2004 aged 82 years, buried at Field of Mars Cemetery with dear wife Shirley. After 58 years of Marriage.


He was the son of Walter Bryant]] and Elsie Baker.Ronald married Shirley Goddard in 1947[1]
