Mrs. Sybil Steel, former Magee High School librarian, died this afternoon. Tentative arrangements and visitation is Sunday, December 16. Funeral will be on Monday, December 17. The services will be held at Nowell Funeral Home of Collins. The obituary will be posted as it becomes available.

Sibyl Steele, Collins

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Collins Presbyterian Church for Sibyl Bryant Steele. Mrs. Steele was a resident of Collins and was 91 years of age. Mrs. Steele passed away from this life Saturday, December 15, 2012, at Magee General Hospital. The Reverend Thomas Shields officiated and Cindy Shields, Barbara Brister, Danielle Bryant, Bailey Bryant, and Jessica Newman provided the musical service. Interment was in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Magee.

Wade Funeral Home of Collins was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers included Danny Bryant, Tommy Bryant, Denny Britt, David Brand, Jason Brown, and Chris Brister. Tommy Brown served as Honorary Pallbearer.

Frances Sibyl Bryant Steele was born August 21, 1921, in Simpson County to Dr. Thomas S. Bryant and Frances Everett Bryant.

Sibyl Steele was a member of the Collins Presbyterian Church and was a school teacher for 33 years, most of which was at Magee High School. Mrs. Steele earned her B.A. from Mississippi University for Women (MUW) and her masters from the University of Southern Mississippi. She served as pianist at the Magee Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Collins Garden Club.

Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband of 49 years, J. S. Steele; a brother, Thomas Bryant, Jr.; and a sister, Loree Bryant Jacks.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Brown and her husband Tommy of Mendenhall; her son, Ray Steele and his wife Felecia of Collins; two brothers, Malone Bryant and his wife Jean of Collins and Frank Bryant and his wife Dutchie of Hattiesburg; one great-grandchild, Cierra Brown; three step grandchildren, William Giger and his wife Heather, Kirk Giger and his wife Nicole, and Zac Giger and his wife Brandy; eight step great-grandchildren, Hannah Giger, C.C. Giger, Macy Giger, Keegan Giger, Easton Giger, Cooper Giger,, Addison Giger, and Bryce Giger; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation was Sunday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Wade Funeral Home. ^[5]
