Biography

William Bryant was a convict after the Third Fleet transported to New South Wales

William Bryan/Bryant (alias Brian ) was a convict who arrived on the ship "Pitt" on 14/2/1792. He was charged with stealing woollen cloth, the property of John Jackson , somewhere near Tottenham. Sentenced to 7 years transportation.

His first wife was a Margaret Maloney to which he had 1 son.

He then met with Jane Ison and had 2 daughters.

It is said (in Leo Cross' book) that Jane Ison re-married a William Eaton and that her daughter

Martha Bryan took on her step-father's name and became Martha Eaton. Leo Cross puts forward a theory that William Bryan / William Brian / William Eaton are the same people.

This could be possible as someone may be confused with the famous convicts William and Mary Bryant who escaped the colony in a small boat along with other convicts and their children.

It is thought that Bryant either died or returned to England as his sentence was up. No records found to corroborate either & no mention of him after this date.
