Alexander Buchanan was born in about 1751, in Scotland, the son of Gilbert Buchanan and Agnes Smith.[1][2][citation needed] . At about 24, on the 2nd of December, 1775, he married Janet Allan at Logie, Perthshire, Scotland, and they had six children.[3]
At 90, in 1841, he was living at Back Street, Newtown, Fintry, Stirlingshire, Scotland with a Donald and Arthur Buchanan, possibly children of his.[4]
At about 90, on or after 1841, he died, possibly at Back Street, Newtown, FIntry, Stirlingshire, Scotland.[5][citation needed]
1751, is a reasonable birth date to give for Alexander, if we are to accept both of the associated sources of the 1841 Census and the marriage of him and Janet Allan. This then points to his birth occurring seven years before his parents' marriage date, [v. their respective profiles], which although quite acceptable, given their respective ages at the time, does make one wonder what were the circumstances of their delaying their marriage for so long. We'll never know. - Ian Fleming
