Biography

Elizabeth Gorsuch Buck was the daughter of Christopher Buck & Kezia Gorsuch. She was born on the family farm in the White Marsh area of Baltimore County 10 MAR 1800. She was married to Joseph Hiss and was the mother of four children. A notice of her death appeared in the Baltimore Sun on 16 MAR 1876:

HISS - On the morning of March 13, 1876, Elizabeth G. aged 76 years, relict of the late Joseph Hiss. The relatives and friends of the family are respectively invited to attend her funeral from her late residence at 42 N. Poppleton St. on this Thursday morning at 10 o'clock. ^[1]

5 DEC 1855: assignment from James Gamble to Elizabeth G. Hiss widow. Very hard to read but I think she bought her house located on the west side of Poppleton St. 125’ south of Lexington for 00. The deed mentions land rents and improvements. I can’t figure out if she’s buying the house or the land.

City Directories after this date give her address as 42 N Poppleton St.
