Biography

Christian Buck (b. 1754, d. 18 Jan 1829)

Christian Buck (son of Johannes Buch-Buck) was born 1754 in Londonderry Township, LancasterCounty, Pennsylvania52, and died 18 Jan 1829. He married Catherine on WFT Est. 1766-1800 in Londonderry Township, LancasterCounty, Pennsylvania52.

Londonderry Township is now known as Conewago Township, Dauphin County

According to tax records Christian was taxed in this township in 1782 for 100 acres of land, 3 cattle, 4 sheep, 0 negroes, 0 mills, 1 house, seven inhabitants, and one other building.

During the Revolutionary War, Christian served in the Militia as well as did his brothers John and Frederick. The following is his service record found in PA archives, Fifth Series, Volume 7, page 726: Lancaster Militia for October 1, 1781, Christian Buck, Second Class, Colonel Alexander Mowrys Company, David McQueen, Captain. Also on page 759, for the year commencing in October 1782. This is true and exact list of the names of each and every male white person inhabiting or residing withing my district in the 4th Co of the 7th Bn of Lancaser County Militia between the ages of 18 and 53 years. Colonel Alexander Mowrys Company, Christian Buck - Second Class Also again on page 786 of the archives. Members of the militia did not fight. They guarded the home front, gave arms and food for the Army and helped to transport the same.

About 1813, Christian and his wife with their son John and his wife Catherine Longnecker Buck traveled by covered wagon and went up into Warriours Mark Valley in Huntingdon County, Pa. Christian bought a farm consisting of 212 acres; this farm lays two miles east of Tyrone Pa and is now (in 1958) owned by Mr. L. R. Clark. Christian and his wife Catherine and a grandson Samuel, son of John Buck, Sr., and an infant daughter of Nancy and Jacob Buck are buried on this farm.
