I’m trying to figure out who my 3rd great grandmother’s mother was. Her name was Lucinda Higgins, she was the daughter of Holland Higgins (who was shot and killed by David Greer, the hermit of Bald Mountain). It’s her mother’s maiden name that is a mystery. I have found where Lucinda applied for a land grant through the Cherokee nation, around 1850. She was born in 1803. Her application was refused with and the Kesiah Vann case is noted, and a special report #276 is mentioned. I believe her mother was Nancey Maney, and her Grandfather was John Cherokee Vann......a scout. But I don’t really know. When she was small she lived near the Cane River in Yancey Co, NC, but after her mother and father died she went to live with her grandparents.......the father and mother of Holla
