Disputed Origin and Marriage

This profile, at its creation, showed Elizabeth -- without a source -- as a wife of John Taylor Lord, Jr. At some point, Elizabeth was linked -- again without a source -- as a daughter of Samuel Buckingham and Silence (Clark) Buckingham of Connecticut. The connection made little geographical sense, as the Buckingham couple are associated strictly with Connecticut while the profile of John Taylor Lord, Jr., shows him born in Delaware and dying in Maryland. Lacking a source, it is an open question whether he even had a wife named Elizabeth; he is also shown with one named Patience Calloway.

In fact, Elizabeth Buckingham, daughter of Samuel and Silence, was the wife of John Merwin, and the couple lived out their lives in Milford, Connecticut. The following material from Families of Early Milford, Connecticut was previously placed in the Biography of this profile in an effort to clarify Elizabeth's identity as the wife of John Merwin:

"John Merwin, s of John was baptized 22 May 1737 (MC1) and died 1826 at ae 90 (BP). He married Elizabeth Buckingham who was born 11 Apr 1738 and died October 1838 at ae 96 (BP) dau of Samuel and Silence (Clark). He served in the Revolutionary War."

Also noted were the children of John and Elizabeth Merwin: Content, John, Samuel, Sarah, Ann, Nathan, Elizabeth, Daniel and Amos.[1]

A roughly-estimated birthdate of 1750 has been placed in the data field, based on John Taylor Lord, Jr.'s, birthdate of 1746, as a placeholder until further research addresses the question of Elizabeth's existence and identity.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Elizabeth by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Elizabeth:

The proposed merge _into_ Unknown-406769 is the correct action for this profile: the Changes page shows that the profile was always intended to represent the wife of John Taylor Lord, Jr. _We do not know her maiden name_.

Elizabeth Buckingham, daughter of Capt. Samuel[l] Buckingham and Silence (Clark) Buckingham, is already represented on WikiTree by the profile Buckingham-53.

I will be detaching this profile from Samuel Buckingham and Silence (Clark) Buckingham as parents.

The real parentage of Elizabeth, wife of John Taylor Lord, Jr., has yet to be discovered... and linking her to incorrect parents simply short-circuits the process of getting motivated WikiTreers to research the question.

PM, please note that John Taylor Lord, Jr., was born in Delaware and died in Maryland... whereas Elizabeth Buckingham's geographical connection is strictly with Connecticut.

The search for John's actual spouse should be focused in, or at least near, DE and MD rather than New England.

[Later edit:] In fact, it is an open question whether he had a spouse named Elizabeth. He is also shown with a wife Patience Calloway -- but neither marriage is sourced. His profile needs a great deal of work if it is to be seriously regarded as that of a documented person.

[Still later edit:] It seems likely that somehow Elizabeth was confused with Sarah Elizabeth (Lord) Buckingham of Milford, CT (1816-1847), wife/widow of _Daniel_ Buckingham. See her Find A Grave memorial page at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/130254692/sarah-eliza-buckingham.

The daughter of Samuel and Silence (Clark) Buckingham married John Merwin, rather than John Lord, as per "Families of Early Milford, Connecticut" - John Lord may need to be removed as spouse - thanks

If this is the daughter of Capt. Samuel Buckingham(-134) and Silence Clark her dob is 1738.

If not she should be detached from them.
