Biography

John Lindsey of Turin Castle, County Mayo was the son of Rev Samuel Lindsey and Frances Bucknall. He was born about 1750.

He assumed the name of John Lindsey-Bucknall from his maternal grandfather The Right Hon Colonel Charles Bucknall who, in his will - dated 6 September 1781, stated that his grandson Thomas Bucknall Lindsay should take the name and arms of Bucknall or the estate would go to the next heir in remainder.

John married in 1785 Mary Bingham, 2nd daughter of Captain George Bingham of Castlebar, Mayo, uncle to the first Lord Lucan. Their children included:

  1. Georgina Susannah (Lindsey-Bucknall) Hely (1795 - 1866)
  2. Samuel Lindsey-Bucknall (1786 - 1844)

Research Notes

The 1847 Burke's Landed Gentry state that John married in 1785 Mary Bingham, 2nd daughter of Captain George Bingham of Castlebar, Mayo, uncle to the first Lord Lucan. I believe based on the age of the sons of George Bingham, 4th Baronet (Castlevar) that the George Bingham is brother to the first Lord Lucan not the uncle.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
