Wilbur Grant Buckner, who preferred bring called "Bill", was born on 29 May 1911 in Waverly, Nebraska, son of George Raymond Buckner and Lola May (Danforth) Buckner.

Wilbur married Beulah Birdie Edwards (1912 - 1974).

Their children were:

  1. Lou Ann (Buckner) Evans (1935 - living)
  2. Marilyn Jo (Buckner) Lavender (1936 - 2021)
  3. Jacqueline Lee (Buckner) Kincaid (1938 - 2013)
  4. Judith Rae (Buckner) Dreyer (1941 - living).
