John Budd II is currently protected by the Puritan Great Migration Project for reasons described in the narrative. Join: Puritan Great Migration Project Discuss: PGM
A previous version of this profile claimed that this John Budd (baptized 12 May 1625 in Stepney, England) was the same as the John Budd-1458, son of the immigrant John Budd to New Haven and Rye. However, there is no proof that the Stepney family emigrated, and far more evidence that it was the Chichester Budd family that emigrated (including the John Budd baptized 22 February 1630[/31] at the Church of Saint Andrew-in-the-Oxmarket in Chichester, Sussex, England. This profile has been updated to reflect this. Because of the confusion about his origins and relations, this profile is being protected and co-managed/tracked by the Puritan Great Migration project.

Budd-1458 and Budd-142 do not represent the same person because: John budd born 1630 Chichester is not the same as John Budd born Stepney b. 1625. Different birth dates and places.
Budd-1458 and Budd-142 appear to represent the same person because: Suggesting a rejected match as put forth by John B. In Feb 2019. If were going to consider John Budd and Katherine Browne a separate couple from Lt. John Budd II and Katherine Butcher we need to indicate it with some note for all to understand. Im still confused about each couples children. Both sets appear to have the same children Sarah and Joseph. A note is needed to clarify the uncertainty of their parents and explain why showing as half siblings or 3 different profiles for similar names.
I understand the Stepney Budds are being separated from the Chichester Budds; however, something needs to be done with all the duplicate children (especially Sarah and Joseph). If these children are all separate and distinct they cant ALL be linked to Mary Horton and/or John Budd as their parents. Please also add notes at the top of the Katherine Butcher vs. Browne profiles to let people know they are being viewed as 2 different people. Thanks.
FYI- Ive submitted 2 merger requests to solve the problem of 3 Sarah Budds. Budd-1616 will merge with 269. And Budd-686 will merge with 269. The father, John Budd- on 1616 will need to be removed and merged with Lt John Budd II (Budd-142).
I agree with Anne. Whereas we have now agreed to split the Stepney Budds from the Chichester Budds, it would seem that a further split between the Stepney Budds and the 'emigrating Lieutenants' of Southold may be on the cards. Any evidence for the Stepney Budds' emigration at all - I may have missed something? Have you guys already done this anyway? If not, it might be a good idea to split, then set up a rejected match and say why... A bit devious perhaps but it will help to keep the two lots of data separate and tidy.
Asserting that he is the son of John Budd of Stepney is just that - an assertion. An evidential link between the John Budd of Stepney and the John Budd of Southold has not been demonstrated.
Since there is now a different John Budd II established as the son of John Budd & Katherine Butcher, would it be okay to clean up the Bio to assert that this John Budd II is the son of John Budd of Stepney? Perhaps move the old discussion of the other John Budd to a different section, such as research notes? What do you think?
