Biography

Paul was born in 1893 in Lamasco, TX. He was the son of Samuel Buford and Sarah Skeen. Paul obtained a belated birth certificate from Fannin Co., TX, of which I have a copy. It shows that Iman C. Buford and Abe Musgrave who, under oath testified that Paul was born on Jan 12, 1893. The certificate was obtained on April 29, 1942. It shows that Paul was born to Samuel and Sarah Buford in Lamasco, TX and that he has 3 siblings. Paul became a self made lawyer by passing the OK bar exam. He practiced in Durant, OK. At the time he shot the marshal of Bennington, at age 19 (see notes for Iman C. Buford), he had only completed the third grade and had been to school only 1 day since leaving the fourth grade. Somewhere before he was 37 he improved his reading and writing skills enough to pass the OK bar exam and become an asst. D.A. for Bryan County.

His WWI draft registration confirms all data, states he was single, did farm work for J. T. Whitworth and, next to the question "Do you claim exemption from draft (specify grounds)? he has something that is not completely legible but looks like Holiness Christiany. He passed away in 1978.
