Biography

JOSEPH BUGEAUD is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 2 Right. Listed with him is his wife, Anne Le Blanc, and children Marguerite, Augustin, Perpetue, Anne and Marie.[1]

Marguerite Bugeaud is the descendant of a Huguenot emigrant.

Marguerite Bugeaud, daughter of Joseph Bugeaud (~1723–1806) and Anne Marie LeBlanc (1732–1812), was a Huguenot descendant[2] born about 1751 in Pisiguit, Acadie, Colony of Nova Scotia, just a few years before the great upheaval of the Acadians during the Seven Years War. [citation needed] Her Native connection remains to be researched and added here.

She and her family were deported by the British and detained in colonial Maryland for eight years during the war; they were among the early arriving Acadian immigrants from Maryland to Spanish Louisiana in 1766. In Louisiana, on the river, the family's name evolved from Bugeaud to Bujol and eventually to Bujole. There, she first married Joseph Constant of Louisiana in St. James, Louisiana in August of 1770. They had two sons and a daughter before Joseph died.[2]

Their children were:

  1. August Victoir Constant (1770) m. Carmelite Jeanne Landry[3]
  2. Anne Constant (1774)

Later, Marguerite married Juan Francisco Jose Gaston Vives (of Valencia, Spain) on February 18, 1780 in Ascension, Louisiana, New Spain.[2]

Their known children were:

Marguerite died on June 21, 1806 in Louisiana, Orleans Territory, United States, aged about 54. [citation needed]
