BIOGRAPHY – MAJOR HAL F BULLER, CD
Maj Buller was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He studied Electronics Engineering Technology in Toronto with Devry Institute of Technology, and Humber College.
Maj Buller joined the 10th Independent Signal Squadron, Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in Winnipeg as an SYEP candidate in 1969. He served two call outs in the ADDN tape relay centers in CFB Winnipeg and CFB Shilo. He transferred to 709 (Toronto) Communication Regiment upon enrolling in college. He released in the fall of 1971.
Maj Buller rejoined the military in the spring of 1980 as an Officer Cadet under the DEO program with 705 (Hamilton) Communication Squadron. In 1983 he transferred to 709 (Toronto) Communication Regiment. While with 709, he trained every summer with CFSCE in Kingston. He progressed through many unit positions including QM O, Trg O, Ops O, and OC Sig Sqn. In 1988 and 1989 he was attached posted to 7 (Tor) RCA as the Artillery Signals Officer. In both those summers, he served as Artillery Signals Officer for the Militia Concentrations held in CFB Petawawa
In the fall of 1993 he accepted a call out position with LFCA as G6 SO2-1. Projects completed at this time included implementation of the TFWAN in Central Area, and relocation of Area HQ network and telephone systems from CFB Downsview to North York, and the procurement, installation, and implementation of a video conferencing/multi media presentation suite.
In June of 1995 Maj Buller transferred to 744 (Vancouver) Communication Regiment. He initially held the position of Ops & Trg O, then DCO. He was promoted to Major upon being appointed the OC of the unit in 1999. In Feb of 2001, he accepted a full time position as the G6 of 39 CBG HQ, while maintaining command of 744 Comm Sqn. Projects worked on included; Domain Name Collapse, Windows 2000 Rollover, Secure Common E-Mail, DVPNI, and Hardware Recap. He has reverted back to the rank of Captain after turning over command of the unit.
During this time period he participated as a Signals Officer in operations such as APEC 97, OP Abacus, FTX Cougar Salvo, FTX Kootenay Castle, FTX Active Edge, OP Peregrine and OP Valour. In Nov of 2005 Capt Buller was transferred back to Toronto to fill the full time position of HQ Tp Comd (Adjt) of 709 (Tor) Comm Regt. He was appointed to serve in the position of DCO with the rank of Major before reaching compulsory retirement age.
In civilian life Major Buller has been employed as a Field Service Representative, and latter as a Field Service Manager in the Medical Diagnostic Imaging and the Power Quality Management industries. He is a life member of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).
Maj Buller is married to Lynda Ann Buller (nee Poulter) of Toronto. His many interests include Amateur Radio, Archery, Flying, Sailing, Motorcycles, Horseback riding, and Woodworking.
