A footnote in the Woburn, Massachusetts records says:
"The emigrant ancestor is believed to be the John Bulfinch, referred to by Savage, who settled Salem as early as 1640. He returned to England and died at Chatham, Kent County, about 1680. Administration on his estate in this country was granted to his daughter, Katherine Bell, widow of Abraham Bell of Charlestown. - Middlesex County Court Records, Vol II., page 334.
