James Bullock, of Oakley, St. Mary's County, Maryland, was the son of John Bullock, Jr., 16xx-1736, and Catherine (_______) Bullock, of the plantation styled "Oakley" in St. Mary's County, Maryland. John Bullock, Jr. wrote his will on October 15, 1736 and it was probated on November 16, 1736. James Bullock's grandfather, John Bullock, Sr., 16xx-1705, came to the Province of Maryland as a servant in 1659. In his will written Nov. 27, 1700, and probated in St. Mary's County, Maryland on April 23, 1705, John Bullock, Sr., who married a Miss Assiter, daughter of William Assiter, named these siblings of John Bullock, Jr.; Elizabeth (Bullock) Alvey Cissell; Mary (Bullock) Attaway; William Bullock; and Richard Bullock, who was deceased by 1730.
