Research Notes

There is a photo identified as "Claude as a boy with Mother Sarah Jane, Her third husband Denny B Bullock His sister Ludie Parker young girl and baby is Will". This image is also on profile Howard-15283. Photo on Ancestry

Claud and Ludie look like they are about 8-12 years old, and Willard looks to be 6 months to 2 years old, which could make the picture taken about 1901/1902. We need to see if there is any indication of a date on the picture/or frame. D. Macy family owns the picture.

Is Will the son of Sarah Jane and not Leora Rachel? Looking for more sources, the only one found is 1910 census with the name of Willard Bullock b. abt 1909, Oklahoma, with Denny and Leora. If he was the child of Denny and Sarah, he would have more likely been born between 1899 and 1908. However, the 1910 census states Leora had 1 child, and 1 child living. No evidence has been found that she was previously married.

The family lore of the Carson, Macy, and Frazier families all indicated that Willard was the son of Sarah Jane Howard. We have all been confused by the 1910 Census and speculate that there was an enumerator error on his age. We feel this is supported by Willard's Obits which states he was 18 years old in 1918 and identifies him as a young man. If Willard was the son of Leora, he would have been 8 or 9 in 1918 and clearly a child. I believe Sarah died between 1902 to 1908, leaving little Willard in need of a mother and her other 2 children in the care of Denny Bullock. With Willard being so young when Leora came into his life, it is reasonable she would consider him "her baby boy". If we are ever able to locate the 1900 Census, that may help with the question of who his mother was.
