According to Bernice Pratt's daughter, Bertha (Targett) Hurdman, Grandma Pratt was once quoted as saying "I'll stop having children when I have a brown eyed boy", which as it turned out was Porter, the last child of a family of 13. Daughter Margaret also had brown eyes, the rest were all blue eyed.
