Nathaniel came to Campbellton, NB, as a young man, to work on the Intercolonial Railway and the tunnelling through Morrisey Rock between Campbellton and the Matapedia crossing to Quebec (before 1875). He worked on this project and on the rail bridge linking New Brunswick and Quebec. After completion of the railway, Nathan filled the position of foreman on the Moncton and Jolie, QC rail division. For 25 years he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Forresters, and a member of the International Brotherhood of Railway Employees. He was regarded by the management as one of the most efficient and trustworthy employees. He retired March 1,1920.
His name was spelled Boomer on his marriage certificate, but 10 years later, his daughter's Temperance card was signed Bertha L. Bulmer, so Nathaniel must have made connections with a member of the New Brunswick branch of the family and learned of the proper spelling of his name.[1]
