John was born in about 1840. He was the son of Joseph Bulmer of Chapel Allerton, near Leeds, Yorkshire.
John emigrated from England to the Colony of Natal.
At the age of 22 he married 22 year old Diana Drew on 2 July 1863 in St Paul's Church, Durban in the Colony of Natal, after Banns[1]. John's occupation was recorded as Store Keeper. The witnesses were William Oliver, Elizabeth Oliver and Emma Leech.
Children (if any) unknown.
His wife Diana passed away on 1 March 1879 at the age of 38.
He probably married, secondly, 29 year old spinster Frances Marguerite Collis on 12 January 1880 before the Resident Magistrate in Pietermaritzburg, Natal[2]. He was a 39 year old widower. Frances was born in Bath, England.
He died some time before 30 March 1891, when Frances remarried as a widow.
