John was born in 1882 and passed away in 1950. He is buried in the Tuncurry General Cemetery, New South Wales. [1]
Mr. J. G. Bulmer The Cape Hawke fishing industry lost one of its best known identities on Sunday afternoon when Mr John George Bulmer passed away.
With three of his sons and Mr Tom Goodlad, deceased was engaged in repairing fishing nets at Jordan's Creek when he had a heart seizure, which, brought about his death within a few minutes. He was a son of the-late Mr and Mrs Beswick Bulmer, early settlers at Bohnock where he was born 67 years ago. He left the Manning in his teens with some of his brothers to join the fishing industry at Tuncurry, where he spent the rest of his life. His association of over 40 years with tine industry gave him a wide and expert knowledge of the fishing grounds in that area, and his advice was frequently sought on various aspects of the industry. For a number of years he gave valuable, service, as secretary of the Tuncurry branch of the Fishermen's League. Mr Bulmer was a hard-working man who enjoyed the esteem and goodwill of all who knew him. He was a keen football fan, and often spoke of the prowess of Manning footballers of earlier years,
Mr Bulmer is survived by his widow (nee Miss Laura Mayers, daughter of Mrs J. Mayers and the late Joseph Mayers, of Tuncurry) and (the following children: Messrs Lex, Warren, Kevin and Byron Bulmer (all of Tuncurry), Dallas Bulmer (Forster), Misses Thora, Freda and Genivieve Bulmer (all of Tuncurry).
Surviving brothers and sisters are Messrs. William Thomas, Arthur Joseph and Charles Albert Bulmer (all of Tuncurry), Mesdames Herrmann (Balmain), J. Kelly (Gloucester), E. Watters (Bexley), J. Baker (Balmain), A. Coombe, senior (Jones Island), and G. McBride (Wootton). The late Edward Bulmer (Sydney) and Dugal Bulmer (Tuncurry) were brothers, and the late Mrs G. Cook, of Taree, was a sister. Three other sisters died in infancy.
At 2 p.m. on Tuesday a service was conducted at the Tuncurry Methodist Church by the Rev. F. T. M. Palmer, Rector of Nabiac, following which the remains were interred in the Church of England section of Tuncurry cemetery. Mr W. T. Howard carried out the funeral arrangements. [2]
MR. JOHN GEORGE BULMER. A well known resident of Tuncurry, in the person of Mr. John George Bulmer, passed away on Sunday afternoon with tragic suddenness while engaged at his work as a fisherman.
Born at Bohnock, 67 years ago, the late Mr. Bulmer was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Beswick Bulmer. When in his teens he left Bohnock for Wallis Island, Tuncurry, and for over 40 years had been following the occupation of a fisherman with his brothers. About 34 years ago he married Miss Laura Mayers and then moved to Peel Street where they had resided ever since. Mr. Bulmer continued in the fishing industry and it was whilst engaged in this work at the net rack, at Jordan's Creek, on Sunday afternoon that he passed away. Mr. Bulmer had a wonderful knowledge of the industry. For some years he was secretary of the Fishermen's Association and was well known and respected.
He is survived by his wife and the following family: —
A service was conducted at the Methodist Church, Tuncurry, yesterday (Tuesday) at 2 p.m. by Rev. F. T. M. Palmer (Church of England) who completed the service at the graveside. Mr. W. T. Howard was the undertaker. [3]
