He married Christine Mary Frederica Laughton on the 29th of July 1933 in King's College Chapel, Cambridge.
In WW2 he served as a sergeant in the Home Guard.
He was a director of the Bulmer's Cider Co. for sixty-three years. Bulmer's cider began as a small family organization, and became for many years, the largest employer in Hereford. Bertram Bulmer succeeded his cousin Howard Bulmer as chairman from 1966 to 1973, staying on as a non-executive director until 1987.
He is best remembered, however, for reviving the art of apple brandy distillation—something not attempted in England for at least two centuries. Brussels was not amused, and thereupon a spirited fight was waged against European bureaucracy on methods of distillation and hostility to the notion of British brandy.
Bertram Bulmer died aged 90 on the 5th of Jan.1993 at his residence Little Breinton, Breinton, Herefordshire. He was cremated.
