DAVID BUNCH, SR. (1722-1776) WILL

In the name of God, Amen! I David Bunch of Trinity Parish, in the County of Louisa, being diseased of body, yet of sound mind, thanks to God for it, do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner as follows, viz:

Namely, First I give my soul to God, my maker, beseeching his most gracious reception of same.

Secondly, I commit my body to the earth from which it was taken, in full assurance of its resurrection at the last day. As for my burial, I desire it may be decent, without pomp. As for my worldly estate it has pleases God to lend me, I do give and divise it as follows:

IMPERATIVE. After all my just debts are paid and funeral expenses discharged, I do give unto my beloved wife, Mary O. Bunch, our side saddle to dispose of as she thinks fit. I also lend unto her, her natural life and widowhood, the tract of land whereon I now live with all my household furniture.

Then I give unto my daughter, Jean Bunch, ten pounds to be raised out of my estate.

Then I give to my daughter, Lucreshia Bunch, ten pounds to be raised after the death of my wife.

I give my daughter, Winnie Bunch, ten pounds to be raised as above.

Then I give to my son Joseph Bunch, sixty acres of land, being the tract where I formerly lived, lying on both sides of Hudson Creek and joining the lands of Charles Moorman, James Bunch, James Watson and Pouncey Bunch.

Then I give to my son, David Bunch, one horse branded on the rear buttocks - B - also fifty-five acres of land lying on the north side of the creek called Sycamore Fork, being the same more or less and bounded as follows, viz: Beginning at a hickory and poplar on the said creek, running thence north four and a half degrees west across the Trevilians Road to a white oak, thence south eighty-seven degrees west twenty-seven poles to a pine and little hickory, Thence south ten degrees west one hundred and forty-two poles to a sycamore on the said creek, then down the same creek by the meanders to the beginning; to him and heirs forever.

Then I give to my son, Anthony Bunch, the colt that shall be brought by a bay mare now with foal. Also fifty-five acres of land lying on the north side of Sycamore Fork be there same more or less and bounded as follows, viz: Beginning at a sycamore on Sycamore Creek, running thence north ten degrees east one hundred and forty-two poles to a pine and little hickory, thence south eighty-seven degrees west fifty-five poles to several pines, thence south twenty-one degrees west one hundred and three poles to a sycamore on creek, thence down the same by the meanders to the beginning. To him and his heirs forever.

Then I give to my son, Thomas Bunch, seventy-one acres of land beginning at two little dogwoods on Camp Creek, running thence north sixteen degrees west one hundred and eighty-six poles to a pine and hickory

-20- thence south forty-five degrees west forty-four poles to a white oak and two little willows, thence north seventy-six degrees west forty poles to two little white oaks, thence south sixteen degrees east one hundred and seventy-three poles to a poplar on the creek, thence down Sycamore Creek by the meanders to the beginning. To him and his heirs forever, provided nevertheless that he shall pay his brother, David Bunch, eighty pounds current money when my youngest son comes of age.

Then I give unto my son, Nathan Bunch, seventy-one acres of land lying on the south side of sycamore Fork be the same more or less and bounded as follows, viz: Beginning at a hickory and poplar on the said creek, running thence south seventy-three degrees west one hundred and forty-three poles to a hickory and oak sapling, thence north sixteen degrees west ninety poles to a pine and hickory, thence forty-four degrees west fifty-eight poles to a sycamore on the said creek, thence down the same by the meanders to the beginning. To him and his heirs forever, provided nevertheless he shall pay unto his brother, Anthony Bunch, eight pounds current money when my youngest son comes of age.

Then I give unto my son, Paul Bunch, seventy-four acres on which my mansion house stands, be the same more or less, and bounded as follows, viz: Beginning at a hickory on Camp Creek and running thence north four and a half degrees west eighty-five poles to a hickory and poplar on Sycamore Fork Creek, thence south seventy-three degrees west one hundred and seventy-three poles to a hickory and oak saplings, thence south sixteen degrees east ninety-three poles to two little dogwoods on Camp Creek, thence down the same by the meanders to the beginning. To him and his heirs forever.

Item: That none of my children, except Joseph Bunch, shall have the aforesaid legacies till after the death of my wife, Mary Bunch, and if either of my sons, David, Anthony, Nathan, Thomas or Paul shall die before they come of age that then their part of land shall be equally divided between the survivors and my desire is that none of them (Joseph excepted) shall sell or lease any of my lands till my youngest son comes of age, and that the remainder of the estate, after my daughters above are paid their legacies, shall be sold at public auction and that the money arising from such sale be equally divided among my children then living, and I appoint my wife, Mary Bunch, Executrix, and my son, Joseph, executor.

This my last will and testament, and I revoke all other wills by me heretofore made.

Sealed with my seal, and dated this 3rd day of January 1776. Signed by the said David Bunch and by him sealed, and declared to be his last will and testament in presence of:

A Court held for Louisa County October 14, 1776. This will was presented to the Court by Mary and Joseph Bunch, executors therein named, who entered into bonds and took the oath prescribed by the law and was proved by the oaths of Samuel Richardson and Nathaniel Anderson, two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded. -21- Know all by these presents that Mary and Joseph Bunch, Captain Thomas Johnson and Thomas Jones are held and are firmly bound to James Merideth, James Overton, Samuel Mayland, Justices of the Court of Louisa and sitting, in the sum of One Thousand Pounds, to the payment whereof which will be made. So, the Justices and their successors, we bond ourselves and each of us an each attorney of Administratrix and administrator, jointly, severally and firmly by these presents, sealed with our seal this 14th day of October, in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven hundred and seventy six.

The condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bond, Mary Bunch and Joseph Bunch, executors of this last will and testament of David Bunch, deceased, do make and cause to be made a true and perfect inventory of all and singular, the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased which have and shall come to the hands, possession and knowledge of the said Mary and Joseph Bunch, or into the possession or hands of any other person or persons for them and the same made do exhibit unto the County Court, of Louisa County, at such times as they shall be required by the said Court, and same goods and hattels and credits and all other goods, hattels and credits of said deceased which at any time after shall come to hand, possession or knowledge of the said Mary and Joseph, or into the hands or possession of any other person or persons for them do and truly administer, according to the law, and further do make a true and just account of their actions and doings therein when required by said Court, and also shall well and truly pay and deliver all the legaries contained and specified in the said testament as far as the goods, hattels and credits will be entered and the law shall charge, them this obligation to be over and of no effect or else to remain in full force and virtue.

Check on Google for the Descendants of Robert Anderson, Jr. Two marriage certs out there one is David Bunch and Mary O. last name not readable married 1745 and the other one is David L. Bunch married to Mary Jane Hughson in 1845. The Anderson family has out David Married to Mary Overton Anderson. Check the names of David's children- most all have Anderson names. First born son named John Anderson Bunch.
