Biography

From Findagrave.com:

Leroy B. Bundy [middle name possibly Burit]--oldest child of Beach N. Bundy and Emily Ann Wisel--was born April 1827, probably in Gainesville, Genesee (now Wyoming) County, New York. In the 1830 US Census enumerated in Gainesville, New York, Leroy was probably one of the two males under 5 years of age listed in the household of his father, Beach M. [sic] Bundy. In the 1830s or 1840s, Beach and Emily Bundy moved their family from New York to Indiana.

In the 1850 US Census, Leroy was one of the rare individuals enumerated twice, in different states. First, in the 1850 census in Jackson Township, Steuben County, Indiana, Leroy (age 23, farmer) was enumerated in the household of his parents, "Beach N. Bunday" (49, farmer) and "Emmaly" (45), along with his siblings Malissa (21), David (19, farmer), Lucius (17, farmer), Roxey (15), Russell (14), Mary (13), Nancy (10), and "Loisa" (7). Second, in the 1850 census in Prarie du Chien, Crawford County, Wisconsin, "Le Roy Bundy" (23, farmer) was listed in the household of his future brother-in-law George P. Taylor (28, farmer) and his family. Leroy's brother, Alvin Bundy (22, lumbering), was enumerated in an adjacent household headed by "Daniel Reed" (55, sawing lumber)--for whom the town of Readstown, Wisconsin was named.

On the 4th of July 1852, Leroy B. Bundy married Hannah Harlan Taylor--daughter of Joseph Taylor and Sarah Harlan--in Bad Ax (now Vernon) County, Wisconsin. Leroy and Hannah had two children; Leetta was born in Bad Ax County, and Frank was born in the same county after it was renamed Vernon County in March 1862:

(1) Leetta (Ettie) Bundy (1859 - 1916)
(2) Frank Bundy (1862 - )

In the 1860 census in Franklin Township, Bad Ax County, Wisconsin, Leroy B. Bundy (36, farmer) was enumerated with wife Hannah (28) and daughter "Lee Ann" [sic] (10 months). They were living next door to Leroy's parents, Beach H. Bondy [sic] (58, farmer) and "Emelia" (52). Unlike many of Leroy's brothers and brothers-in-law who served in Wisconsin infantry units during the Civil War, Leroy does not appear to have served in the military during the War.

After leaving Wisconsin in the 1860s, Leroy and his family moved frequently. By the 1870 census, Leroy (43, farmer), his wife Hannah (38), and children Leette (10) and Frank (8) were living in Willow Township, Cherokee County, Iowa. In the 1880 US census in Hunt County, Texas, Leroy and family are shown working on the railroad as head of a group of a dozen railroad men. Leroy (54, "work on R.R.") is listed with his wife Hannah H. ("Cook R.R. hands"), Leetta (20, "Cook R.R."), and Frank (17, "work R.R."). By the 1900 census, Leroy Bundy (73) and wife Hannah (68) were living in Healdton Township, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now Carter County, Oklahoma), with Leroy's son Frank (37, farmer), Frank's second wife Jane (35), and two children by his first marriage, Joseph (8) and Ellie M. (7).

According to records from the Harvey Douglas Funeral Home in Ardmore, Oklahoma, Leroy B. Bundy died 29 March 1902 in Ardmore, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory (now Carter County, Oklahoma). The cause of death was listed as "old age & kidney disease." Leroy's funeral was held 30 March 1902 in the village of Lone Grove, and he was buried at Lone Grove Cemetery. [Note that there is no headstone for Leroy Bundy at Lone Grove Cemetery, and Lone Grove Municipality has no surviving records showing the location of his grave.] A death notice placed in the 1 April 1902 edition of "The Daily Ardmoreite" newspaper stated simply, "L. B. Bundy, an old man 75 years of age, died Sunday at this place, of old age, and was taken to Lone Grove for burial."

Leroy's widow, Hannah H. Bundy, remarried at age 73 to Jesse G. Chancellor (of Whitesboro, Texas) on 28 June 1905 at Ardmore, Indian Territory. They were enumerated living in Cooke County, Texas in the 1910 census.
