Biography

Birth

Nancy Bundy was born around 1796 (It would have to be at least this time or later for marriage and childbirth.) in Virginia, United States to Mr. Bundy (c. 1755-1797) and Anna McKinney (c. 1755-1859). No more information has been found about the first name of her father. Her mother used the Bundy surname in legal documents in 1797 after her marriage to Musick and before her alliance with Ephraim Hatfield (Anna McKinney wasn't actually married to Hatfield until 29 November 1830, when their grown children requested a marriage be performed.) Nancy often used the surname of Hatfield when she was young. Nancy had 4 Hatfield 1/2 siblings and 5 Musick 1/2 siblings. The 1850 census (taken early 1850) lists her age as 50.

Death and Burial

Nancy died about 1853 in Wayne, Augusta, Virginia, United States, according to family members, at the approximate age of 57. She was definitely alive in August 1850 for the Federal Census. No grave has been found.

Nancy Bundy Hatfield was born in 1796. Her mother was Annie McKinney Bundy Musick Hatfield and her father was unknown Bundy. The Story goes that her mother narrowly escaped the Indians after her husband, David Musick was murdered in his home and her and her 4 children, Abraham, Samuel, Elexious, and Phoebe Musick were kidnapped. They were rescued by Ephraim Hatfield and his fellow militia men. Sometime afterward she had Nancy Bundy, and it is presumed that her father had passed untimely and that is when she married Ephraim Hatfield, whose spouse had died giving birth. She is presumed to have been a good choice not only because of the need for a husband but also because of his need for a wife and mother (and wet nurse) to his infant. She was raised by Ephraim Hatfield as an infant and thus the present confusion of her "maiden" name. Her maiden name was officially Bundy but went by and was known as "Hatfield" until she married William Romans. She passed away in 1853.

    • 1820: William would be the 26-44 year old male. The Romans would have the 5 children shown in the census at that time, James (7), William (6), Isom (4), Anna (3), and Mary Catherine (8 months). Not sure if it is simply a mistake that one of the daughters is included with the male children.

Bundy-178 and Bundy-1183 appear to represent the same person because: Apparent Duplicate, same name, duplicate child name, Levi.

Bundy-1183 and Bundy-178 are not ready to be merged because: not enough info.on Bundy -178. and certainly not to merge Bundy-1183 into the new Bundy-178.

Bundy-1183 and Bundy-178 appear to represent the same person because: They are the same person who married William E. Romans and mother of Levi Romans

Please take a closer look at this.William Romans didn't have two wives of this name with different maiden names and the same married names. It's just too coincidental. Something is very wrong. "Personal Knowledge" of a person who was born in 1796 isn't much help; so if there is an originating source, could you please provide it and we'll try to get to the bottom of this problem. It is my belief that the man only had one wife named Nancy whose maiden name was Bundy. If we find that to be true, then the 2 profiles should be merged with a correction of the maiden name in the unsourced profile and the 2 sons named Levi need to also be merged.
