Lanny Boyd Bundy, 69, of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Mr. Bundy's wishes were to be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Christian Church in Ord. Pastor Greg Barnes will officiate. Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Bundy was born Sept. 22, 1943, at Scotia to Obediah "Boyd" and Mildred V. "Millie" (Layher) Bundy.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 50 years, Shirley of Grand Island; a son and daughter-in-law, Bradley and Deborah of Grand Island; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kristine Bundy of Grand Island and Shelley and Tim Boyce of Ord; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Allan and Gerry Bundy of Ord and Roger and Linda Bundy of Fairbury; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sue Hurlbert of Ord and Carmen and Ron Meyer of North Platte.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jade Bundy of North Platte, Cale Bundy of Grand Island, Ally and Jessie Boyce of Ord; one stepgrandson, Shane Rygol and his wife, Sarah, of Omaha; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He spent his early childhood in Scotia until 1955, when his family moved to Ord. Lanny graduated from Ord High School in 1961. While in high school, he was selected to play in the 1961 Shrine Bowl. He continued his education at Fairbury Junior College, where he also played football.
On May 16, 1963, Lanny was united in marriage to Shirley Cetak at Ord. The couple resided in Ord and Lanny worked at the Ord Creamery. In May of 1964, they moved to Oxford, where Lanny was the Plant Manager for the Oxford Cheese Corporation. In 1991, they moved to Wakefield and Lanny spent three years as the Plant Manager at MG Waldbaum Egg Processing Company.
The couple returned to Ord and Lanny managed Cetak's Grocery Store until it was sold. He then purchased the Red Rooster Part's Store in Grand Island. He drove to work daily until 1998, when the couple moved to Grand Island. Lanny operated the Red Rooster until October of 1999, when his health forced him to retire.
Lanny was an Assistant Scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts and served for four terms on the Oxford City Council. He enjoyed woodworking, the outdoors and barbecuing his famous chicken. He was an avid Husker fan and hunter. The highlight of Lanny's life was his family, especially the grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
