Biography

Grace L. Bundy was in October 1878 in Newfield, Tompkins County, New York. [1] She was the daughter of Theodore & Cora (Beardsley) Bundy. [2] [3]

Grace married Franklin “Frank” Poole on March 27, 1895 in the Town of Caroline. She was the daughter of Theodore and Cora (Beardsley) Bundy. [4] They made their home in the Town of Danby, where Frank was a farm laborer. On the 1900 census taken June 16th, they had three children: Claude, Cora and Ruth. That July they had another child, Clinton. [5]

By 1902, Frank and Grace had divorced and she married a second time to Elmer Barnes. In 1905, Elmer and Grace were in Dryden, New York with Cora and Clinton. [6] In 1910, Grace and her youngest child, Clinton, were living with her father in Lansing. Claude and Cora were boarding elsewhere and it appears Ruth had taken the last name of Brown – possibly having been adopted by William A. Brown and his wife Mannie of Ithaca? Whatever their circumstances, local social news indicated these four siblings continued to visit each other. [7]

According to a local newspaper, Grace died Thursday, March 7, 1912. [8] She died at her home at Lansing Station after a two weeks’ illness of paralysis and was buried Sunday morning in the new cemetery. [9] She is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Lansing, Tompkins County, New York. [10]

Mrs. Elmer Barnes of Hedden died at her home Thursday night. She leaves her husband and one daughter, Cora, and one son. – The Groton Lansing Journal, Ludlowville, NY, [Wednesday] March 13, 1912.
