Biography

David was born in 1775. He passed away after 1834.

David Bundy was born 11 Aug 1775 in Nash Co., NC. He was the son of Dempsey Bundy and Mary Boswell.

David's married his first wife, Demaris on 16 Apr 1797 at Holly Springs Meeting House in Wayne Co, NC. She died before 1808 without children. David married again to her younger sister, Orpha, on 08 Dec 1808 in Wayne Co, NC. Because of restrictions in the Friends' faith, Orpha was discharged from the group for marrying too close to kin. David's and Orpha's children do not appear in Quaker records because of this schism.

After 1808, David Bundy moved to Nash Co., NC, where he is listed in the 1810 census living near his brother-in-law, Thomas Horn.

The 1810 census shows David and Orpha with two sons under 10.

The 1820 census shows only one son (Josiah who was born 1809) and four daughters. We know that Gulielma Maria was born 1815 and Martha Ann in 1819.

The 1830 census shows only three daughters but the oldest may have married by then.

The area where David Bundy lived was apportioned to several counties during his life, and his records show up in Dobbs, Wayne, Nash and Wilson Counties. The parents of Damaris and Orpha, Thomas and Cielia (Vick) Horn, also lived in the area of Wayne County that later was joined with Johnston, Edgecombe and Nash Counties to form Wilson County.

David died sometime after 1834 in Wayne or Randolph Co, IN where several of his children had settled.

Bundy-1340 and Bundy-818 appear to represent the same person because: Look to be the same person. 818 has first wife of David with an incorrect death date (David still around at the 1820 census). 1340 lists second wife as spouse. Several children by second wife, only one listed.
