Billie Lee Bunker, was born March 23, 1939 in Greene, Iowa, the son of Martin Bunker and Arline Mills Bunker. He passed away in Tucson, AZ on January 21, 2011. Bill was a parachute rigger with the US Navy from 1956 to 1975. He wintered over in the Antarctic with Operation Deep Freeze IV, served in the Antarctic several more years and also served in Spain for several years. He was a Vietnam veteran and he last served, before retiring, on the USS Oriskany.
He loved to cook, loved music, loved to sing and hear his wife and sister sing. For the past 15 years he lived in the Philippines but returned to Tucson when he became ill. He died in the Tucson Veteran’s Hospital.
Bill had suffered with heart disease for many years and decided he had enough, was just going to go to sleep and end all the pain. And so he did. He donated his body to the University of Arizona Medical School to help teach students and continue his service to his country.
