 Sebastian Buras, son of Jean Pierre Burat, Sr. and Marguerite Frederick, was born around 1767 in New Orleans, Louisiana.[1]

Le Pays des Fleurs Oranges

Excerpt from Le Pays des Fleurs Oranges (The Land of Orange Blossoms) by William R. Stringfield:[50]  SEBASTIAN BURAT (B3), is the father of the ”Seven Sons” where the legend arose. The 1810 Census shows 7 boys under sixteen<16>. Eight were actually born, but one left Plaquemines. Two daughters were also born. The principal property which SEBASTIAN held was twenty arpents frontage, the north end being the L. P. & L. Property, or Electric Utility site for much of the 1900's in the Buras community. Ten slaves were mentioned in his succession in 1833. The 1810 census listed three slaves. The 1830 census listed six slaves<18>. SEBASTIAN married on 16 May 1795 (SLC, M.V. 2, p. 101) to MARIE JULIENNE BURAT, daughter of JOSEPH GUILLAUME BURAT (A) and MARIE LOUISE MILLET. SEBASTIAN was born in 1767, and died in 1833. MARIE JULIENNE was born in 1779<8>. In 1850, she was living alone in House 437<19>. Marie Julienne died after 1860.
