Biography

He belongs to a branch of the family that is largely missing in the Burbank Genealogy except for this brother, Thomas McMaster Burbank, who is incorrectly listed in the Unconnected Braches part of the Genealogy. Epsom history makes it clear that he and his siblings are the children of Aaron Burbank and his wife Elizabeth Libbee (or Libbey or Libby).

He was born and raised in Epsom, New Hampshire, then the family moved to Chester, VT. Later, some of the family, including Issac, moved to Strafford, VT with his parents, as confirmed in Moses' Early Settlers of Epsom: "Elizabeth [Libby] married Aaron Burbank, from Rye, who bought land in the Mountain district in 1762, lived there several years, then went to Stratford, Vt.; Isaac, Jr., also went to Stratford, Vt."

RESEARCH NOTES:

It took me a long time to track him down and connect him to his son, Enoch Burbank (b. 1818). There are virtually no birth records I can find. But, Enoch's father is clearly listed as Isaac Burbank from New Hampshire. And, Enoch was born in Strafford, VT, where his father Isaac moved with his parent's as a young man. Thus, while I cannot say with 100% certainty that this Isaac is Enoch's father, it is the only Isaac Burbank that fits the bill (born in NH, moved to Stafford, VT, and of the right age).

The next step in this difficult puzzle is connecting Issac with his wife, who in records is listed as Abigail Brown. The only Abigail Brown of Strafford, VT who seems to be a good candidate (of the right age, not married to someone else, etc.) seems to be Abigail Brown (1759-1837), daughter of Absalom Brown (1759-1837) and Abigail Bean (1765-1844).

I BELIEVE that Abigail Brown and Isaac Burbank had at least three children:

The names of their three kids match perfectly with Abigail's family. Absalom was her father's name. Enoch (Bean) was both her maternal grandfather's name and her brother's name; and Love (Gordon) was both her maternal grandmother's name and Lovey was her sister's name.

More evidence: Isaac clearly was living with his daughter, Lovey, and her husband, John Wells in Hartsgrove, Ashtabula, Ohio. The census records fit showing that her father (Isaac) was born in the right year and born in NH, while she was born in Strafford, VT.

Final circumstantial evidence: Absalom Burbank (1809) was born in Strafford, VT, but married to his wife, Electa Burbank in Astabula, Ohio. This is where Lovely ended up living with her husband, John Wells.
