Biography

RESEARCH NOTE: The information in the 1928 Burbank Genealogy (and in the FamilySearch.org trees) for this John Burbank is largely incomplete and incorrect. The Genealogy correctly lists his first wife as Experience Reed and their one child, Asahel. However, the Genealogy omits his second wife, Asenath Chapin (see tombstone for proof), and three children from that marriage and INCORRECTLY lists John (b. 1789) as his son. FamilySearch often repeats the errors of the 1928 Burbank Genealogy and erroneous lists Asenath as the wife of John Burbank VIII (b. 1743). I want to thank contemporary John Burbank for his help in providing me with the correct information.

BIO: Born Sept 14, 1769 in Sudbury, MA. Died Apr 10, 1852 in Warren, MA. Married twice. Married, first, Mar 22, 1792, Experience Reed of Sudbury, MA. She was born around 1773 and died Jan 10, 1793 in Sudbury, MA at age 20. They had one son before she died. He married, second, Asenath Chapin, daughter of Edward Chapin and Asenath Allen. She was born May 29, 1782 in Springfield, MA and died Aug 13, 1872.

Lived in Framingham, MA, in 1783 and later in Warren, MA, in 1839, as per statement in the pension application of his brother Thomas' widow. He also wrote May 1837 in the pension application of Elizabeth Burbank, widow of said thomas, "five are now living," which refers to his brothers and sisters.

Children by first wife, Experience Reed:

1. Asahel. b. Aug 17, 1792. The following record appears: "1797 Nov 14. Asahel Burbank, a minor under 14, son of John Burbank, a vagrant, by his late wife, Experience (Reed). William Rice, a farmer, guardian and then John Burbank of Brookfield chosen by Asahel Burbank about 14, on account of the estate of his grandfather, Jacob Reed, 6 Sept. 1807."

1. Harriet. b. Oct 14, 1799 Warren, Worcester, MA, d. May 13, 1858 in Warren, MA, m. May 7, 1820 Warren, MA, Lewis Moore ( b. 1796 Warren MA, d. Jan 29, 1856 Warren MA).
2. Emeline Reed. b. Feb 23, 1810 Warren, Worcester, MA, d. Dec 9, 1844 Warren MA; m. (intentions dated Mar 16, 1838) Warren, MA, Dr. Lorenzo Warriner son of Warren & Catharine (Fullington) Warriner (b. Nov 6, 1807 Wilbraham, MA, d. Aug 17, 1873 Warren, MA). No children by this marriage, but Lorenzo married again after her death.
3. Asher Allen. b. Apr 7, 1820 Warren, MA; d. Apr 15, 1895 in Warren, MA. m. Nov 14, 1845 in Warren, MA, Mary Tucker, b. 1820, daughter of John and Mary Tucker.
