Biography

Leslie Heaton Burbank was the oldest in age and the longest in duration NAPA dealer in the United States.

Leslie Heaton Burbank, the son of James Frank Burbank and Lila H. Heaton, was born 13 February 1910 in Rhame, Bowman Co., North Dakota.[1][2][3][4]

The 1910 U.S. Census showed him, age 2 months, born in North Dakota, living with his parents and his older sister "June" [Jennette] in Manmarth, Billings Co., North Dakota.[5]

The 1920 U.S. Census had the Burbank family, now including siblings James and Dorothy in addition to Leslie and Jennette, living in Hubbard, Rusk Co., Wisconsin.[6]

In 1928 he graduated from Woodstock Community High School and went on to attend the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.[1]

By 1930 the Burbank family was at Hartland Township, McHenry Co.[7]

Leslie's first wife was Dorothy Mae Botts. They married on 27 December 1934 in Indiana.[8]

Leslie and Dorothy had one child.

In 1938 Leslie Burbank began an auto parts business on North Main Street in Crystal Lake (located at 7100 Teckler Boulevard and known as Lake Auto Supply, Inc. in 1983), becoming the oldest in age and the longest in duration NAPA dealer in the United States. Leslie retired in 1996.[1][9]

Leslie and Dorothy were living in Woodstock by themselves when the 1940 U.S. Census was enumerated.[10]

Leslie Heaton Burbank was living at 517 South Jefferson, Woodstock, and was self-employed at 127 North Main Street, Crystal Lake, when he registered for the U.S. draft on 16 October 1940 at Woodstock. He described himself as having a height of 5' 10", weight of 175 lbs., light brown complexion, blue eyes, and brown hair.[2].

He married Agnes Cecila (Pearson) Tipps, widow of Malcolm Rufus W(orth?) Tipps, on 11 December 1948 in Crystal Lake, McHenry Co., Illinois, at her parents' home.[1]

Leslie loved the Chicago Bears.[1]

Leslie was 90 years old when he died 7 January 2001 at Fair Oaks Health Care Center in Crystal Lake.[1][3][4]

Burial was at Crystal Lake Memorial Park Cemetery.[1][3]

He was survived by his wife, Agnes, a child, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.[1]
