Biography

William was supposedly born 18th June 1854 at Herstmonceaux, Sussex, England, two years before his parents left England for the USA.^[1]

Possibly baptised as Henry William BURCHETT at St. John. Bodle Street Green (a neighbouring village to Herstmonceaux) 20th August 1854, son of James (a labourer) & Mary BURCHETT of Chilsom's, Herstmonceaux, Sussex, England.^[2][3]

William Henry (aged 2 years) travelled with his parents James BURCHETT (22) & Mary BURCHETT (23), his uncle Thomas BURCHETT (30) & aunt Esther BURCHETT nee Haffenden(25), cousin Elizabeth M. BURCHETT (2) and probably uncle Richard HAFFENDEN (20) ^[4]

A search of All Saint's, Herstmoneaux Baptism Register from 1852-1856 shows no baptisms for William Henry BURCHETT.

The General Register Office does not appear to list a birth for William Henry either.
