DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with William:

Howdy all. I'm Harry Michael (Mike) COPELAND. Instead of editing, I thought this way might be better. Please correct me if I'm mistaken. If someone can add to my info, please do so.

My ancestral line runs from;

(1) William Spencer BURD (I show nothing whatsoever regarding William's last name ever being changed from BURD to BIRD), abt 1750 - 1822, born in Spartansburg, S.C., married to (unknown) HARPER (no other info), married to Elizabeth BROOKS (from William S BURD.doc) and had (I have no other children shown - no Nancy (BURD) HARPER), (from William S BURD.doc & Descendants of Lewis Cast BURD.doc) - please point me in the right direction if I'm incorrect;

(2) William Jr. abt. 1770 - abt. 1830, born in Spartansburg, S.C., married Hannah OWEN, (from William S BURD.doc) and had;

(3) Owen Peter, 2 Mar 1812 - 1 Jan 1876, married Celia L. BROOKS, (from William S BURD.doc & Descendants of Lewis Cast BURD.doc) and had;

(4) Albert Porter - 14 Nov 1844 - 3 Apr 1917, married Luvena J. WHITEHURST, (from William S BURD.doc & Descendants of Lewis Cast BURD.doc) and had;

(5) Harry Willis - 26 Jun 1878 - 20 Mar 1947, Florence HUNTER, (from William S BURD.doc) and had;

(6) Amy Corinne Craddock - 9 Aug 1918 - 21 Oct 2003 - my Mom, married Doc Bons COPELAND, my Dad.

Send me your email address, so I can add you to the Trusted List for WIlliam Jr. Then, you can add spouse and descendants.

Do you know if there's a link somewhere to William S BURD.doc and Descendants of Lewis Cast BURD.doc? Kathy

Howdy Kathy. Sorry for the delay, still trying to get things straight after the loss of my wife a year ago. Things are still kinda hit or miss.

Anyway, to answer your question I show Lewis Cast BURD < Spencer J BURD < Robert Harper BURD (Brother of William Spencer Jr) < William Spencer BURD. This is in that document, and has the following sources for Robert Harper - I've kept the numbering used in the notes intact, as well as the typos:

2. Van A Stilley. Some Decendants of Michael and Isabel Harper Germany to Virginia, the Carolinas, and Kentucky;

5. Van A Stilley. Some Decendants of Michael and Isabel Harper Germany to Virginia, the Carolinas, and Kentucky. page 5;

6. Chester Wilkes. Information from Chester Wilkes letters. 11626 Lida Rose, San Antonio, Texas, 78216. From Chester Wilkes letter dated July 24, 1991;

7. Ann Newman. Letters;

8. Unkown. Copied as writtened from the Gardner file at the Historical Society in Munfordville. January Quarterly Vol.31, No. 1, page 13.

Again, my apologies for the delay. I'll be glad to share my info if you'd like.

Dear M,

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your wife. That must be incredibly difficult. How long were you married? My connection to William Spencer Burd is based on a significant DNA match between myself and several of his descendants, plus proximity in the early censuses between Burd family members and Hance Harper. It also appears the families moved from SC to KY together.

Do you have copies of Van A Stilley. Some Decendants of Michael and Isabel Harper Germany to Virginia, the Carolinas, and Kentucky.

Chester Wilkes letters (1991)

Ann Newman. Letters

January Quarterly Vol.31, No. 1, page 13

I would be happy to pay for copying and mailing, if you have these sources.

Howdy Kathy. Yes it's extremely difficult. If she'd have made it to our anniversary this year, it would've been 50 (I also count the 2 years before we got hitched).

I'll see what I can find on my 'puter for the sources. I was out of the genealogy stuff for close to 20 years, and just got re-interested a couple months ago. So after that, when I went looking for my materials, I found that I'd lost a large amount in a hard drive crash some years ago. My back ups were flawed, but I did recover some info from that. That's been remedied now, but that doesn't help my lost files.

I'll let you know as soon as I can.

Mike.
