Fauquier Co. Mg. Bk. #1, pg. 411, July 15, 1793: William McClanahan, Culpepper: “I do hereby certify I am willing that Peggy Berden (Bender?) alias Timber, a free colored mulatto who was bound to me, should intermarry with James Nickins, both of whom are people of color.”

Note: the man William McClanhan in the document above is: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/McClanahan-125

His son John McClanahan is the one who testified in court later in SC that Priscilla Timbers Burden was born free, of a free white indentured servant, Sarah.

The William McClanahan family was the employer of the white woman Sarah, who some have called Aikens, but I can not confirm that is her maiden name. She had children which used the Timbers surname, and these children were Mulatto. Meaning, Sarah partnered with a black male, and had free colored children.

By law, those kids would be indentured to a white family, in this case the William McClanahan family of central Virginia.

In the statement, William proves he had Peggy as bound servant, and she was getting married to a free man of color.
