William Burford III (b. 03 Oct 1656)

William Burford III (2nd Generation son of William Burford I and Ann Burfoot(e)) was born October 3, 1656 in Charles City, Virginia and died in Granville, North Carolina. He married Anne (Unknown). Their son Daniel Burford, was born April 21 1684 in King William, Gloucester, Virginia.

William Burford I (1st Generation Burford) was born in 1615 in Burford, Oxfordshire, England and died October 3, 1656 in Charles City, Virginia. He married Ann Burfoot(e), born in 1619 — who can be seen as "grandmother Burford" by all genealogical children of the first America Burford family that immigrated from Burford, Oxfordshire, England.

"The Burford Family name is probably derived from the village of Burford, England noted as having a church as early as 685 AD. It was a common practice that many citizens took the name of the village in which they lived, but by 1200 AD, a second name or surname was found to be needed.

William Burford III, born October 3, 1656 in Charles City, Virginia, is the earliest Burford we can document born in America who is a descendant of those early English villagers in Burford, England. Most Burford researchers agree that Daniel Burford the Elder (of the Church) is his son." [1]
