Prince George's County, Maryland Land Records 1757-1759; Liber PP {Abstract by Mike Marshall}; Page 33. At the request of Nathaniel Offutt the following Deed was recorded September 7, 1757 Indenture made May 13, 1757; Joseph Belt, Gentleman and Margery Belt his wife of one part and Burgess Mitchell of the other part. Whereas Susanna Mitchell, widow, was seized of and estate of inheritance in fee tail in a tract called "Greenwood" the immediate reversion or remainder belongs to Burgess Mitchell, eldest son of said Susanna Mitchell, and whereas Susanna Mitchell by virtue of and act of assembly made at Annapolis the 6th day of October, 1724 entitled and Act for the Relief of Long Languishing Prisoners did convey unto Philip Lee, Gentleman then sheriff of PGCo for and during the natural life of the said Susanna and whereas Philip Lee by his deed bearing date March 2, 1725 for the consideration of 51 pounds current money did convey the said tract of "Greenwood" unto Margery Sprigg, now wife of Joseph Belt for the natural life of Susanna Mitchell and whereas likewise Burgess Mitchell stands justly indebted to several of the inhabitants of this province in divers sums of money and tobacco which Burgess Mitchell and John Mitchell his son are willing and desirous should be bonafide paid and satisfied. Now this indenture witnesseth that Joseph Belt and Margery Belt his wife for the consideration of the premise and she sum of 5 shillings current money have surrendered by these presents unto Burgess Mitchell upon the conditions hereinafter mentioned all that tract called "Greenwood" containing 380 acres to have and to hold during the natural life of Susanna Mitchell upon condition that Burgess Mitchell shall be made perfect tenant of the freehold and appear gratis to a writ or writs of entry and to vouch to warranty of John Mitchell son and heir apparent. Signed Joseph Belt, Margery Belt, in the presence of and acknowledged before John Sprigg, Joseph Belt, Jr., and at the same time Margery Belt w/o Joseph Belt relinquished her right of dower. May 13, 1757, received of Burgess Mitchell 5 shilliing consideration money and received of Nathaniel Offut 15 shilling and 2 pence half penny sterling for an alienation fine on the 380 acres."
