Sponsored by the Earl of Kingston, the Leahy's departed from Cobh Parish, County Cork, Ireland on 5 May 1825 aboard the ship Fortitude. They were chosen as part of the Peter Robinson Exhibition, where close to 2,000 others sailed from Cork in 9 different ships during the summer of 1825.[3][4]
