Nelson W. Burgess was born at Livermore, Maine, on 23 Nov 1822, the son of Thomas Burgess and Eliza (Sturtevant) Burgess.[1]
A FindAGrave memorial that cites no sources says that Nelson W. Burgess enlisted on 20 Dec 1861 as a private from Andover, Maine, at the age of 39, was promoted to corporal in 1862, and died of disease at Fort Barrancas, Florida, on 15 Jun 1863. The memorial includes a photo of a gravestone for "N. W. Burgess," with no date, at the Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Florida.[2]
