Biography
Martha Jane Burgess Davis was the daughter of James Henderson Burgess and Lucy Ann Yancey. Martha Jane Burgess married Samuel Cox Davis. They had 3 children before she died. They were Dessie I. Dellar Davis, Ida J. Davis, James Burgess Davis. Martha Jane Burgess died when her son James Burgess Davis was about 2 weeks old, leaving him to be raised by his grandparents James Brown Davis and Elizabeth Covington Davis. Samuel Cox Davis then married second wife Mariah Angeline Hicks Davis Together they had twins Addie A Davis and Agnes Izora Davis, Thomas Arthur Davis, and Oscar Turner Davis.
