Before receiving his degree, George served in the Cival War as a surgeon on the battleship "Forrest Rose" of the US Navy. He practiced his profession at Chester, Lunenburg Co., Nova Scotia and later at Somerset, Kings Co., Nova Scotia. He is buried at Lakeville Presbyterian Cemetary.
