In 1866/67 he was listed as a merchant in Somerset, NS. He migrated to Newfoundland. He worked between Baine harbour and Burin, NF buying fish. He had a large operation around the turn of the century, including a canning factory which made their own tins. He owned his own schooner, The Minnie Pearl, built c 1904 in Mahone Bay, NS.; schooner, 96 tons, wood, registered at St. John's, NF # 116503. She foundered on Friday, 18 Dec. 1912 off Cabot Strait, Lat.46 20 N, Long. 57 55 W. She was on a voyage from Twillingate, NF. The crew was taken off by the ship, Solway, and landed at St. John's, NF. She sank the next day, Saturday. This information was provided by The Lloyds of London agent in at St. John's, NF to the newspaper, The Glasgow Herald, of Scotland, on the 21st of Dec. 1912. [1]
