Biography

Florence was born in 1873 in Cato, Cayuga County, New York. She was the daughter of Giles Orlando Burk and Mary Fidelia Spinning.

On 11 Jun 1875 she was living in Cato, New York.^[1] The household included Giles O Burke age 39, wife Fidelia Burke age 38, daughter Mary Burke age 5 and daughter Florence Burke age 2 1/2, all born in Cayuga County. Giles was a farm laborer.

In 1880 she was living in Cato, Cayuga.^[2] The household included Orlando Burke age 44, wife M Fidelia Burke age 43, daughter Mary M Burke age 10 and daughter Florence A Burk age 7. Orlando was a farmer. Orlando reported that his father was born in Vermont and his mother in New York. Mary Fidelia reported that her father was born in New York and her mother in Connecticut.

In 1892 she was living in Elbridge, Onondaga, New York.^[3] The household included Giles O Burk age 56, Mary F Burk age 55, Mary Burk age 22 and Florence Burk age 18.

Guy Whiting Sands and Florence Adele Burk were married 17 Apr 1895 in Jordan, Onondaga County, New York.^[4]

In 1900, they were living with Guy's parents in Elbridge township, Onondaga County, along with their son Warren. She was the mother of three children, one living.^[5] The household included Geo Sands age 66, wife Jane W Sands age 66, son Guy W Sands age 28, daughter-in-law Florence A Sands age 27, grandson Warren Burk Sands age 1, and boarder Michael Hare age 38, all born in New York. George was a farmer. Guy was a farmer. Jane was the mother of 2 children, both living. Florence was the mother of 3 children, 1 living.

By 1905^[6] they had moved to a farm on Oswego Bitters Road in the town of Camillus. Children Warren and Marian, and Guy's mother Jane were in the household. By 1910,^[7] daughter Ruth was born. She remained on the farm for the remainder of her life.^{[8][9][10][11][12]}

She died 20 Sep 1941 in Camillus.^[13] The funeral was held at her home.^[14] She is buried in Maple Grove Cemetery, Jordan, Onondaga County, New York.^[15]
