In 1850 he was age 13 living in Cato, Cayuga, New York, United States with his father William, step mother Lydia and siblings Giles, Adelaide, Marshall, Marcus, Jennett, Catherine and William.[1] He was living with his parents and siblings in Cato in 1855[2] and 1860.[3]
He was a school teacher and met Myra Bowen in Attica, New York. They married in April 1860. They worked on her brother's farm for a year, and in 1861 he purchased a 75 acre farm at Meacham Corners in Meridian.[4]
When he registered for the Civil War draft in June 1863 he was a married farmer living in Cato.[5]
In 1865 he was enumerated in the census for Cato, Cayuga, New York as F N Burk, age 28 with his wife M E Burk age 28 born in Genesee County, New York and daughter S B Burk age 3 1/2 born in Cayuga County.[6]
In 1867 he fell in the barn, was seriously injured, and died.[4]
He is buried in Meridian Cemetery, Meridian, Cayuga County, New York.[7] Although his gravesite memorial has no death date, the memorial for his daughter has an image of his gravestone. The engraving includes Fernando N Burke 1836-1867, Myra E Bowen, his wife 1835-1906, and Stella Burke Bowen 1862-1934.[8] The grave memorial identifies his wife as Myra E Brown.
Both Fernando, deceased, and his daughter Stella were named in his father's will in 1877.[9]
