Hamilton William "Ham" Burk was born to James M. Burk and Christiana McLane on 29 January 1836 in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio.[1] In the late 1850s, he moved with his family to Linn Township, Linn County, Iowa. There Ham met Ann Eliza Curtis, daughter of Elisha Curtis and Frances Whisler Scott. The two were married on 25 January 1859 at the home of the bride's father in Linn Township.[2] Ham died from pneumonia on 11 May 1914 at the home of his brother, Thomas McLane Burk, Orchards, Clark County, Washington.[1]
